Severna Park wildlife control tip of the month:

How do I clean raccoon feces out of my attic?

Raccoons usually leave their feces in the same area where they often poop and this site is called latrines. Since raccoons are the leader in Baylisascaris procyanis, the roundworm that may be very harmful to humans, the eggs of the roundworm may be visible in the feces, their latrines must be eliminated and cleaning up must be done to prevent health hazards later on. But you must be very cautious in cleaning the Severna Park animal control feces and you must never use bare hands to do this. Where is the latrine? Where it could possibly be? It may be at the base of the tree, on a log pile, a pile of Severna Park pest control wood, in the attic, on the roof, in the garage or under the porch. The latrines of the raccoon are just nearby their hub and that may be a health risk to humans living in the property.

Cleaning must be left to the experts and you must never use your hands to clean up. The recommendation of the CDC for those who are in need of cleaning is to call the professionals for help. They know what to do and they know how doing it without being harmed. They will use a disposable set of Severna Park wildlife removal gloves; it may be rubber boots or disposable botties that also cover the shoes. They will wear an N95 respirator to cover their nose and mouth. They will also use a spray bottle to water the area for cleaning and to lessen the dust and fumes that may scatter in the air while they are cleaning up.

The feces and other materials around the feces will be shoveled and placed in a plastic bag, it will be sealed and buried in a landfill area. If outside, the feces will be soiled and with boiling water. If inside, the contaminated area will be wiped off with a wet sponge with a bucket full of hot and soapy water. Flush the water to the toilet when finished. The shovel must also be disinfected with boiling water and then the sponge will be placed in a plastic Severna Park animal trapping bag to dispose it. The scrub boots will be placed in a hot water with soap or it can also be disposed and so do with the gloves. The logs must be burned outside.

The droppings may also be cleaned by a vacuum cleaner and then the cleaning Severna Park exterminator professionals will use an anti-fogging system. This is meant to eliminate all the debris left in the area. This is an electric powered machine that emits an enzyme based Biohazard cleaner. It will destroy the organic matter without affecting the structure of the house.
